What is the Ministers Job according to Scripture

The Ministers Job According to Scripture

REALLY? WHAT is the Minister’s Job According to Scripture?

It seems everyone has an idea of what the functions of a minister are but I see very few or any that actually line up with scripture. Since a Christian should not care what anyone’s idea is , but only what God says it is, I will endeavor to enlighten those that are interested in What the scriptures say in this regard.
So, what really is the job of the Christian minister? The nominal “church” (most of the church world, the church system of men) says that the only minister of any real value is the pastor. In fact in some circles you might think that that God has died and made the pastor god. But what does the bible( God’s word) say about this. Lets take a look at scripture and see what it says about the Christian minister and his responsibilities.

Specific ministries recognized by scripture.

The scriptures clearly define the ministries that are to be recognized by the new testament church. These scriptures also tell us God’s purpose for these ministries. let’s look at

Ephesians 4-11 and He gave some, apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. verses 12 and 13 tell us why they were given to us. “for the perfecting of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ, til we all come in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God,unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.”

God gave some men to us, the church. He gave them with specific reasons and purposes.
These scriptures show us that these men were and are given by God to His church (that is all true disciples of Christ, not a building, not only one group) for the purpose of changing us from carnal (worldly) people to a Christlike people (the bride of Christ),perfect and spotless as He is.
We must learn to lean on God and submit our whole being to Him. W e must also recognize that God has given men to us that He may use them to help us make the change. Each of these ministries that God has given to us to be used by Him in changing our lives has a specific area of ministry (Expertise). One of these ministries alone cannot provide all the necessary insight and help that we need. If this was possible , then God (remember He is smarter than we are )would not have specifically provided this multiple ministry for us.

Unfortunately the majority of “churches” professing to be Christian do not believe in these ministries, others do not allow them to function, others limit their ability to function by limiting their influence, and others corrupt their proper function . The few that do allow them to function reap the benefits of God’s plan. The proper functioning of these ministries is almost exclusively seen in small independent Spirit filled assemblies . Although a few large groups have a show of these ministries I am not aware of any that allow the free flow of these ministries. There are also a number, especially the charismatics, that teach that a sugar daddy God will presto changeo change you instantly when He is ready and all you have to is wait. Because scripture tells us to ” work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” w can see that is not scriptural advice. Gods people are perishing for lack of proper understanding and scriptural misunderstanding in the “churches” that keeps them from receiving the full counsel of God that He has prepared for them.
What are these ministries supposed to do, how are they supposed to function?
Since God has provided these men , He must have also given us scripture to tell us what and how they are expected to accomplish that which they were given to do. There are two scriptures that clearly show this,

2 Tim 4:4 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
1 Peter 5:5 The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: 2 Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; 3 nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; 4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away. .

These scriptures certainly make it clear as well as give warning to the ministry as to their attitudes and life style.
When a person is not living in the manner prescribed by scripture they are usually blind to areas of their lives that need to be changed , they cannot hear clearly (if at all) from God as they are not in proper fellowship with him, Sometimes they have heard but need to be reminded that God is still waiting for the change. Many times these are things that cannot be seen by the natural eye. Whatever the circumstances, it should be clear that the times we are most in need, are the times we do not have fellowship directly with God. So therefore God in His infinite wisdom and mercy gave men to us with a charge to bring the Word of God whether we want to hear it or not. Thank God for His love and mercy. IT IS TIME THAT THE MINISTRY starts DOING the job that God has given them. Ministry does NOT answer to the people, the ministry answers to God as to how they have cared for His people. Ministry is not given to any particular group of people , ministry is given the the entire body of Christ . I understand that it is not pleasant to have to be responsible and to go to those that do not want to change and are messed up or in rebellion to God, but He gives this charge to us through the apostle Paul who has set the example for us to follow. He did all the things that we are charged with in II Timothy 4. Sometimes it broke his heart too, but He DID WHAT GOD CALLED HIM TO DO. We must do the same.

Prov 27:5 Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

We see from Proverbs that it is a greater act of LOVE to rebuke with love than to keep our mouth shut and let one suffer eternal damnation. If we really love God’s people we will start living as servants to them , setting the example as we are charged and to fully execute the job God has entrusted to us. When the ministry that God has given to His church starts doing the the work they were sent to do, THEN and only then will we see the bride of Christ (the true disciples of Christ) coming forth in the purity and Holiness that is necessary for us to see God. Hebrews 12-14

Why is this Necessary ?

Because of God’s great love for His people.
2 Tim 4: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Do you see it? If someone does not tell them the truth they may be lost forever. Because they have forsaken God and started following their own way.

Prov 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

The above applies to certain men that have a special anointing from God in the areas mentioned. They are not above anyone else or better than anyone else we are all equal, but they have a special anointing to serve ALL of the true disciples of Christ.

Now this seldom taught truth is for and about everyone else

One thing that is almost never taught is that YOU, if you are a disciple of Christ ARE A MINISTER.    And YOU are called to bring the Gospel to those you meet. You are equipped to fulfill your responsibility when you are filled with the Holy Spirit. You do not have the extra responsibility that those men above mentioned do but you are responsible to fulfill your measure of ministry.

God did not give us men to gather us in a building and sit while we are entertained and indoctrinated with their beliefs. Scripture tells us we do not need man to teach is what they believe, He gave us the Holy Spirit to teach us what God declares.. The men that God did give to us all were given to us to help us learn, to hear from, respond to and follow the Holy Spirit as He directs us in doing the WORK OF THE MINISTRY, which is our responsibility. Let’s get to work.

Refer to Eph 4 above.

1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

Warning to all Ministry.

You will answer to God for the way you have done the job you are called to do. . You must be baptized in the HOLY Spirit so you can be sure you are hearing the instructions from God. Then you must follow those instruction without changing them no matter who or what is involved. You are not to add to or take away from , just give exactly as God has given to you. Your personal opinions and desire must NEVER be allowed to influence you. And never forget, those of us who profess to teach are judged by a stricter standard.
James 3:1 3 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

Final Caution

If anyone brings to you a Word they say is from from God you must take it to the Holy Spirit and have Him confirm whether it is true, then if it is true (as confirmed by the Holy Spirit of God you must act on it. Then you must thank God for sending him.
However if the Holy Spirit confirms ( the Holy Spirit , not your heart, as your heart is deceitful) that it is not correct then you must go and tell him. If his response in any way tries to explain or coerce you into believing it, then was not from God.
Remember you will answer to God not to man. Ministry is responsible to God for what they teach and say. But, you and only you will answer to God for what you believe. Please do not miss HIM.
